The Saltwater Sailfin Molly is a great addition to all reef tanks! These fish make remarkable algae eaters and can be kept in pairs or large groups. They give birth to live young and will readily breed in your tank acting as a sustainable source of fresh food for your other tank mates. These Saltwater Sailfin Mollys come in salt&pepper and orange variety, the males boast a large sail like dorsal fin while being generally long and skinny while the females get large and have a round midsection. The SA Saltwater Sailfin Mollys are bred in saltwater and are not acclimated over like some other sources making them much hardier and more susceptible to breed in the future. These fish make a fantastic starter fish for your tank to test the water and make sure things are ready for the more expensive stuff. They can also be a great food source for larger aggressive predator fish as they have been fed with saltwater foods allowing for a higher nutrient content for your saltwater predator than a freshwater variant would be.
SA utilizes multiple broodstock pairs to ensure genetic diversity of the fish being offered for sale. Care of the Saltwater Sailfin Molly is identical to the common Freshwater Molly. Although all sizes are available, the Saltwater Sailfin Molly typically ships at a size of around 1.5”;
These fish will accept most fish foods and are perfect for reef tanks. More than one can be kept in the same aquarium and they prefer to be kept in groups.
Since 2003 the Tennessee Sustainable Aquatics (SA) Hatchery breeds dozens of species from resident broodstock and every month provides thousands of colorful healthy fish.
