Porites are a lesser known SPS variety to the hobby, also known as the “jewel coral” they come is a wide variety of colors. Generally found in shallow waters they tend to like a higher PAR of 200+ and have been known to tolerate PAR levels over 1000. Heavy flow is a must because of their shallow water habitats and thus they generally do not accept prepared foods unless you’re lucky enough to get a Christmas tree worm or two in your Porites colony (these will not contain Christmas tree worms as these are all aquaculture variety of Porites and have been for multiple generations to ensure good tank health and a lack of pests).
