The Neon Green Helmet Fungia is a great coral for filling in that empty sand space in your tank! These corals need to be kept on the sand as thatās how theyāre found in nature and their skin stretched all the way around the skeleton even the bottom where there is no light, it may look as if thereās none, but you can feel it there. If that skin gets damaged it can cause necrosis in the coral and glueing it to your rock will do so. Even if it doesnāt damage the skin the coral will produce a mucus to help itself detach from the glue used so I can once again be on the sand bed. donāt worry about this coral getting some sand on it though it has a special mechanism it uses to make sure it doesnāt get buried.
Are fungia plate corals able to remove sand themselves?
Yes! These corals coral can inflate themselves in sections by sucking in water and it can help it to push the sand off the coral and allow the coral to “climb” itself out of a sticky situation. These corals will readily accept food, usually meaty frozen and prepared foods.
