The Red Ball Sponge requires strong water flow and supplemental feedings of liquid plankton and other dissolved organic foods. Like all sponges its is important to never let the sponge be exposed to air. Air in the sponge can prevent food from reaching the cells of the sponge effectively starving the sponge.
